Job summary

Potentia is seeking a Software Developer with strong modern Java experience to join our SaaS product team in Wellington. You will build and evolve a cloud-based platform used by thousands of businesses across New Zealand and Australia, focusing on secure and scalable backend services.

Work with Java 21+ , Spring Boot, RESTful APIs and AWS to deliver features, improvements and the ongoing evolution of a successful SaaS platform in an office-based role in Wellington.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of commercial software development experience, focusing on backend systems and APIs using Java and Spring.
• Experience with building cloud-based SaaS platforms and RESTful services.
• Solid understanding of secure, maintainable code in a fast-paced SaaS environment.

Are you a Software Developer who enjoys building great products, solving interesting problems and working with people who genuinely care about what they create?

We’re looking for a Software Developer with strong modern Java experience to join a growing SaaS product team.

You’ll be working on a well-established cloud-based platform used by thousands of businesses across New Zealand and Australia, helping evolve a product that operates at serious scale.

This is a great opportunity to work with modern Java technologies, Spring, AWS and RESTful APIs while contributing to new features, product improvements and the ongoing evolution of a successful SaaS platform.

What you’ll be working with

• Java 21 or recent versions of Java
• Spring / Spring Boot
• RESTful APIs and backend development
• AWS and cloud-based applications
• Secure software development practices
• Databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, MongoDB or similar
• Agile ways of working, including Scrum, Kanban and Lean

You’ll be working on mission-critical software at scale, so we’re looking for someone who enjoys getting into complex problems, thinking things through and finding practical solutions.

What we’re looking for

You’ll ideally have 5+ years of commercial software development experience, particularly building backend systems and APIs using Java and Spring.

• Can communicate ideas clearly and work well with others
• Enjoys sharing knowledge and learning from the people around them

• React or other modern frontend technologies
• Redis
