At Weirdly, we believe work should make people feel good, not just pay the bills. We build recruitment software that helps organisations hire based on values and culture fit, so people can find roles where they’ll truly thrive. We’re a close-knit team of optimistic, curious, and slightly quirky humans who love what we do. As a Kiwi startup, we’re scaling fast, experimenting often, and always learning. Our values - Get Curious, Get Shipping, Get Pretty, Get Naked, and Get People - guide how we build, collaborate, and grow.

The Role

We’re on the lookout for an Intermediate Backend / Full Stack Engineer to help shape the future of Weirdly’s platform. You’ll play a key role in designing, developing, and optimising our backend systems (PHP/Symfony), while contributing to frontend features (NextJS or similar).

This role is perfect for someone who loves clean, scalable architecture, thrives in a collaborative environment, and enjoys solving real-world problems that make hiring more human.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Build and optimise backend services to ensure scalability and reliability.
  • Develop and maintain APIs, integrations, and data flows across systems.
  • Collaborate with product and frontend teams to deliver new features.
  • Manage AWS-based infrastructure and deployment practices.
  • Contribute to sprint planning, code reviews, and technical direction.
  • Continuously improve CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and observability.
  • Maintain strong data security and compliance standards.
  • Research and recommend new technologies that support Weirdly’s growth.
What You’ll Bring
  • Proven backend engineering experience in a SaaS environment.
  • Strong skills in PHP/Symfony (bonus if you’re comfortable with NextJS, React, or VueJS).
  • Solid understanding of databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB) and modern architectures (microservices, serverless).
  • Hands-on experience with AWS (Lambda, ECS, API Gateway, RDS).
  • Familiarity with authentication, data privacy, and secure coding.
  • Experience with DevOps tools and practices (CI/CD, Terraform, CloudFormation, Datadog, New Relic).
  • A collaborative, curious, and delivery-focused mindset.
Why You’ll Love Working Here

At Weirdly, you’ll join a team that genuinely cares about the product, our users, and each other. We:

  • Build innovative tech that makes hiring more human.
  • Value transparency, creativity, and continuous improvement.
  • Offer flexibility, autonomy, and a culture built on trust.
  • Are proudly Kiwi, global in ambition, and a little bit weird (in the best way).
