Job summary

Personnel Resources is recruiting in Taupō for an experienced NZ CA accountant to join a firm. You will prepare financial statements, tax returns, and GST filings while advising clients on budgeting and cash flow.

The role emphasizes strong client relationships, accurate reporting, and collaborative work with senior colleagues. The ideal candidate has 3+ years in NZ public practice, solid NZ tax knowledge, and proficiency in Xero and Excel.

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years' experience in a New Zealand public practice CA accounting environment.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and New Zealand tax, along with confidence using Xero and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative approach to working in a team.
  • The ability to stay organised, prioritise effectively, and manage multiple deadlines.
  • A self-motivated, solutions-focused attitude and willingness to take initiative.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships with a diverse client portfolio.
  • Prepare annual financial statements and working papers for various business entities.
  • Complete income tax returns and ensure compliance with current NZ tax legislation.
  • Prepare GST returns, provisional tax calculations and other tax requirements.
  • Assist clients with budgeting, cash flow forecasting and financial planning.
  • Produce management reports and provide insights to support business decisions.
  • Work with cloud-based accounting software, including Xero and related apps.
  • Coordinate with the IRD and external agencies on behalf of clients when required.
  • Ensure work is accurate, timely, and compliant with standards.

Day to day responsibilities:

  • Prepare GST returns, provisional tax calculations, and other taxation requirements.
  • Assistclients with budgeting, cash flow forecasting, and financial planning.
  • Produce meaningful management reports and provide insights to support business decision-making.
  • Work with cloud-based accounting software, including Xero and related applications.
  • Liaise with the IRD and other external agencies on behalf of clients whenrequired.
  • Ensure all work is completed accurately, efficiently, and within agreedtimeframes.
  • Maintain up-to-date client records and documentation while meeting professional and compliance standards.
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment and provide outstanding customer service.
  • Support senior accountants and managers with advisory projects and other accounting assignments as needed.
