Jora New Zealand is seeking a practical, reliable carpenter to join our small Auckland team for residential renovation and interior fit-out projects. You will work on homes across Auckland, interpreting plans and delivering quality timber installations.

We are looking for a practical, reliable and experienced Carpenter to join our small team. The position involves varied residential renovation, interior fit-out and property-improvement work at homes throughout Auckland.
read and interpret plans, measurements, specifications and work instructions;
measure, mark, cut, shape and assemble timber, plywood, wallboard and related materials;
construct, install, renovate and repair timber structures, fixtures and interior fittings;
install and repair internal framing, partitions, doors, door frames, skirting, architraves, shelving and other timber components;
complete residential alteration, renovation and interior fit-out work;
assemble and install prepared timber components and fittings;
repair or alter timber furniture and home-staging fixtures where skilled carpentry work is required;
remove and replace damaged timber, fittings and fixtures;
check completed work for accuracy, quality and finish;
identify and prepare the materials, tools and equipment required for each project;
safely use and maintain carpentry hand tools and power tools;
comply with company and site-specific health and safety procedures; and
work professionally with management, customers, suppliers and other tradespeople.
The principal purpose of the position is skilled carpentry and residential renovation work. Material handling and movement of furniture or tools will be incidental to the Carpenter role.
relevant practical experience performing skilled carpentry duties in residential construction, renovation or interior fit-out work; or
a relevant New Zealand Level 4 carpentry qualification or an acceptable overseas equivalent.
practical competence in measuring, cutting, assembling, installing, renovating and repairing timber structures and fixtures;
experience using carpentry hand tools and power tools safely;
the ability to understand plans, drawings, measurements and work instructions;
good knowledge of workplace and construction-site health and safety;
the ability to complete work accurately and to a professional standard;
the physical ability to undertake active site work and lift building materials;
reliable attendance and good time management;
the ability to work independently with limited supervision;
the ability to work effectively as part of a small team; and
a professional approach when working in customers' homes.
Applicants who meet most of the requirements and can demonstrate directly relevant carpentry skills are encouraged to apply.
A current New Zealand driver licence is preferred. Applicants without a driver licence must be able to travel reliably to the Otara base.
A minimum of 30 hours per week is guaranteed.
Work will generally be scheduled from Monday to Friday.
The specific days and working times will be advised and agreed in advance according to project requirements.
Additional hours may be offered when required by the business and will be worked only by mutual agreement between the employer and employee.
All hours worked will be paid at the employee’s agreed hourly rate.
Pay will be made fortnightly.
$35.00-$39.00 gross per hour, depending on relevant experience and demonstrated practical ability.
Permanent employment with regular weekday work.
Varied residential renovation and interior fit-out projects.
Work-related transport between the Otara base and assigned Auckland project sites will be provided or arranged where required.
Required personal protective equipment and employer-supplied work equipment will be provided.
