Job summary

New Zealand Defence Force seeks Intelligence Operators to gather and analyse information to support decision making across the NZ Army, Navy, and Air Force. You will work in small teams to produce timely intelligence products and provide security advice to commanders.

From early career you will briefing military commanders and developing new skills as you progress. Successful candidates will attend an Intelligence Operator Selection Board to be considered for the role.

Qualifications

• Strong analytical abilities to interpret information from multiple sources.
• Experience briefing military commanders or senior staff is valued.
• Able to work effectively in small teams and meet tight deadlines.
• Clear understanding of information security and intelligence processes.

Responsibilities

• Record, collate and process information following the Intelligence Cycle (Direction, Collection, Processing, Dissemination).
• Conduct analysis of the operational environment and threat to inform decision-making.
• Provide security advice to commanders.
• Help prevent adversaries from predicting NZ Army actions.
• Produce high-quality intelligence products in short time frames.
• Collaborate with NZ Army units and Special Operations Forces.

Intelligence Operators fulfil an important role in the New Zealand Army. They gather and process information to assist decision making. This is done in conjunction with both the Navy and Air Force, and there are opportunities to work with other government agencies.

INTELLIGENCE STAFF

• Record, collate and process information from a variety of sources, following the "Intelligence Cycle": Direction, Collection, Processing and Dissemination
• Conduct analysis of the operational environment and threat in order to inform decision-making
• Provide security advice to commanders
• Help prevent the enemy from being able to predict what we are going to do
• Work in small teams to produce quality intelligence products in short time frames
• Work closely with other units, including other NZ Army combat Corps and Special Operations Forces

From early on in your career you will be briefing military commanders and what you say will influence their decisions. You will have the chance to develop new skills and meet new challenges as your career progresses.
