Five-D Limited is an employee-owned engineering consultancy in New Plymouth, Taranaki. The Instrument & Electrical Designer role focuses on delivering I&E designs and documentation for projects across New Zealand.

The mid-level position requires AutoCAD proficiency, strong I&E design experience, and some site exposure in Electrical, Instrument and Control engineering. The team emphasises collaboration, quality, and practical engineering solutions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in Instrumentation and Electrical design.
• AutoCAD design experience.
• Site experience in Electrical, Instrument and Control engineering preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, coordinate, and deliver Instrumentation and Electrical designs using AutoCAD.
• Develop and deliver single line diagrams, layout diagrams, connection diagrams, instrument & I/O schedules, Hook-up Drawings, Cause & Effect diagrams, Loop Diagrams.
• Understand P&IDs and Hazardous Area drawings.
• Manage a portfolio of complex projects with multiple deadlines.
• Propose efficient, pragmatic solutions aligned with codes, standards, and project objectives.
• Perform ongoing quality control and participate in squad checks and audits.

Five-D Limited is a 100% employee-owned, multi-discipline engineering consultancy based in the sunny coastal city of New Plymouth, Taranaki. From our CBD office (just a short walk to the coastal walkway), we deliver high-quality, practical engineering solutions across New Zealand’s critical industries.

About The Role

This is a mid-level position where you will be delivering Instrumentation and Electrical (I&E) design solutions and work products in accordance with the project, client and code requirements.

You Will

• Be responsible for preparing, coordinating, and timely delivering Instrumentation and Electrical designs utilising AutoCAD.
• Develop and deliver single line diagrams, layout diagrams, connection diagrams, instrument & I/O schedules, Hook-up Drawings, Cause & Effect diagrams, Loop Diagrams.
• Have an understanding of the development of P&IDs and Hazardous Area drawings.
• Have an ability to manage a portfolio of complex projects that may span one or multiple disciplines with multiple project deadlines.
• Demonstrate an ability to find efficient and pragmatic solutions while aligning with industry best practices, codes, standards and project objectives.
• Manage ongoing quality control for work products you are responsible for, along with participation in squad checks and audits then report on and rectify any issues.

About You

You are a well-rounded Instrument & Electrical Designer who brings both technical depth and a collaborative mindset.

You Will Bring

• AutoCAD experience;
• 5+ years’ experience in the industry as an Instrumentation and Electrical Designer;
• Some site experience in Electrical, Instrument and Control engineering is preferred (assets being constructed, commissioned and maintained).
