Job summary

Vessev in Auckland seeks a Propulsion Engineer to own the design and validation of electric propulsion within the Hydrofoil Systems team. You will drive integration of motorpods to larger propulsion units while balancing electromagnetic, thermal, packaging, and manufacturing considerations.

You will work closely with controls, firmware, electrical and mechanical engineers, conducting both dynamometer testing and on‑water validation to continuously improve propulsion performance and reliability.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics or Electrical Engineering.
• Experience designing high‑performance electric motors with emphasis on electromagnetic performance and reliability.
• Hands‑on hardware commissioning, dynamometer testing, and on‑water validation.

Responsibilities

• Own design, integration and validation of electric propulsion systems from motorpods to larger propulsion units.
• Collaborate with Controls, Firmware, Electrical and Mechanical engineers to optimise the propulsion system.
• Analyze electromagnetic, thermal, mechanical and manufacturing trade‑offs for propulsion packages.
• Convey component and assembly designs in CAD and produce detailed manufacturing drawings.
• Bridge design and production teams to ensure feasibility and cost‑effective manufacturing.
