Job summary

Traffic Management NZ, part of Altus Group, is seeking an experienced HR Advisor to join the People & Culture team. This generalist role partners with managers across the business, delivering practical HR support throughout the employee lifecycle.

You'll drive recruitment, employee wellbeing, performance support, injury management and return-to-work programmes, ensuring compliance and a engaged workforce in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a generalist HR advisory role.
  • Strong recruitment and employee relations experience.
  • Knowledge of New Zealand employment legislation and HR best practice.
  • Experience managing workplace injury and return-to-work programmes (preferred).
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach and sound problem-solving ability.
  • High levels of professionalism, confidentiality, and integrity.
  • Experience using HRIS systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Current full New Zealand Driver Licence.

Responsibilities

  • End-to-end recruitment for operational and field-based roles, including advertising, shortlisting, interviewing, and reference checking.
  • Partner with branch managers to ensure staffing levels meet operational demands.
  • Coordinate onboarding and induction programmes for new employees.
  • Maintain employee records and HR documentation within the HRIS.
  • Monitor employee accreditations, licences, and certifications to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Provide timely and practical advice to managers on performance management, disciplinary matters, and employment relations.
  • Coach leaders on HR policies, employment legislation, and best practice.
  • Promote employee wellbeing through regular welfare meetings and proactive engagement.
  • Coordinate workplace injury management and return-to-work programmes.
  • Liaise with ACC, employees, managers, and healthcare providers to support successful recovery outcomes.
  • Prepare accurate fortnightly and monthly HR reports and workforce metrics.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across HR processes and people practices.

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced and proactive HR Advisor to join our People & Culture team. This is a true generalist role where you'll partner closely with managers across the business, providing practical HR support throughout the employee lifecycle.

You'll play a key role in attracting and retaining talent, supporting employee performance and wellbeing, coordinating injury management and return-to-work programmes, and ensuring our workforce remains engaged, compliant, and well supported. Key Responsibilities

As our HR Advisor, you will:
