Job summary

Dunedin Hospital is seeking a House Officer (PGY2+) for a permanent full-time role. This position offers structured teaching and weekly RMO education sessions, with several development opportunities.

You can rotate across runs such as Medical Oncology, ENT, Gastroenterology, Ophthalmology/Neurology, Haematology, Neurosurgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Cardiology, Orthopaedics, General Medicine and Paediatrics. 6-month runs exist in obstetrics/gynaecology and paediatrics.

Qualifications

  • Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand or eligibility for general/provisional general registration.
  • EPIC Credentialing is required for registration.

Responsibilities

  • Teach and participate in weekly RMO education sessions.
  • Rotate through runs across multiple specialties (e.g., Medical Oncology, ENT, Gastroenterology, Surgery, Paediatrics).
  • Be eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.

About the Role

Teaching and training are important to us here in Dunedin and that is why our RMOs have a protected session every week. Several other regular activities that House Officers can join whether it is the regular House Officer Education sessions or the journal clubs, X-ray meetings or rounds from the various services. There is always something happening!

Depending on your interest, we have several runs available for you to work in. These include:

  • Medical Oncology
  • ENT
  • Gastroenterology
  • Ophthalmology / Neurology
  • Haematology
  • Neurosurgery
  • Respiratory
  • Cardiothoracic Surgery
  • Cardiology
  • Orthopaedics
  • Renal
  • General Surgery
  • Urology
  • General Medicine
  • Psychiatry
  • Older Peoples Health
  • ED
  • Obstetrics and Gynaecology(6 month runs)
  • Paediatrics(6 Months Run)

While the above runs are available each quarter, O&G and Paediatrics are6 month runs). About you

Our ideal candidate will have: Registration with the Medical Council of NewZealand or be eligible for general or provisional general registration with the Medical Council of NewZealand. You can check your eligibility for registration by visiting the Council's website at MCNZA minimum of 1 year post qualification experience. It is requirement of the Medical Council of NewZealand that your qualifications are approved through EPIC. If you have a commitment to working in New Zealand, it is highly recommended that you start this process as soon as possible to allow your subsequent registration to be undertaken in a timely fashion.
