Are you a qualified Heavy Vehicle Engineer ready to take the next step in your career? We’re looking for a technically skilled and compliance-driven professional to play a key role in heavy vehicle certification in New Zealand.
As a Heavy Vehicle Certifier, you'll be at the forefront of vehicle safety and compliance—ensuring all modifications meet NZTA Heavy Vehicle Specialist Certification (HVSC) requirements. You will provide technical leadership in certifying heavy vehicles for legal registration and road use.
What You’ll Be Doing
Certify vehicle modifications in accordance with VIRM and NZTA HVSC standards.
Lead and deliver heavy vehicle projects with precision and efficiency.
Conduct inspections across structural and mechanical systems.
Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to embed certification standards.
Provide technical leadership in vehicle classification, compliance, and record-keeping.
Maintain strong working relationships with NZTA, fellow certifiers, and key stakeholders.
Mentor staff and support the development of heavy vehicle engineering standards and processes.
Drive continuous improvement across engineering, safety, and compliance systems.
Support HSW and environmental initiatives aligned with best practices.
Champion audit readiness and corrective actions across all certification-related processes.
What We’re Looking For
Tertiary qualification in Mechanical, Automotive, or related Engineering discipline.
Certified NZTA Heavy Vehicle Specialist Certifier (HVSC), HVET is a must.
Strong understanding of NZ heavy vehicle compliance and inspection standards.
Experience with VIRM, certification documentation, and inspection protocols.
Highly organised with excellent communication and leadership skills.
Familiarity with industry norms (e.g., bolting, welding, fatigue, FEA, tooling) is advantageous.
Passion for continuous improvement, quality assurance, and safety excellence.
