Job summary

HEB Construction is seeking an experienced Heavy Machinery Operator for Civil Canterbury projects in the Canterbury region. You will perform precision earthmoving, grading and site setup using GPS-guided equipment, ensuring millimeter accuracy for local projects.

Role requires hands-on operation of excavators, dozers, graders, and scrapers, plus setup and troubleshooting of GPS systems. Training and development opportunities are provided within a supportive team environment.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience with precision earthworks and site prep.
• Hands-on operation of excavators, dozers, graders, and scrapers.
• Ability to diagnose and fix GPS hardware/software issues in field conditions.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment (excavators, dozers, graders, scrapers) on regional civil projects.
• Configure, calibrate and troubleshoot GPS guidance systems (Trimble/Topcon/Leica) for millimeter accuracy.
• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to keep GPS and machinery in good condition.

Job description

We're looking for an experienced Heavy machinery operator to join our Civil Canterbury team. This is a great opportunity to be part of regional projects that help shape the local community.

What we're looking for

Proven precision-guided earthmoving, grading, and site preparation tasks

Expertise in operating and troubleshooting GPS guidance systems such as Trimble, Topcon, and Leica.

Knowledge of how to properly set up, configure, and calibrate GPS equipment and attachments on heavy machinery to ensure millimeter-level accuracy.

• The ability to diagnose and fix technical issues related to the GPS equipment, software, and connectivity in the field.

Proven, hands-on experience operating various types of heavy equipment, such as excavators, dozers, graders, and scrapers.

• Performing routine maintenance checks, cleaning, and minor repairs to ensure all equipment, including the GPS system, is in excellent working condition.
• A valid driver's license (Class 2 or higher) with WTR endorsements.
