Job description

About Us:

Bathurst Resources is New Zealand’s largest specialist coal mining company, producing over 2.2 million tonnes of coal annually with a workforce of over 550 employees. Our coal is primarily used for steel making, with a third supplied to a local Kiwi steel mill. Our high-quality, thermal-grade coals support many iconic South Island food and dairy businesses.

The Stockton Opencast Mine, located near the coast on a plateau in the Buller coalfield, 35 km north of Westport, is one of New Zealand’s largest mines with a long history of coal production, exporting high-value coal to leading steel makers worldwide.

Located in the heart of the Buller region, our employees enjoy a balanced lifestyle with access to water sports, mountain biking, tramping, fishing, and community activities.

The Role:

We are seeking a Heavy Diesel Mechanic for a permanent, full-time position reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor. The role involves maintaining and repairing our fleet of CAT haulage trucks, utility vehicles, and earth-moving equipment to a high standard. This is a critical role for our mining operations, requiring capable, motivated, and professional hands-on technicians.

To be successful, you must have:

  • New Zealand Working Rights
  • A strong focus on Health and Safety
  • Proven diagnostic skills on heavy equipment
  • Excellent attendance record
  • Experience in the Mining Industry (advantageous)
  • Experience with on-site equipment such as:
    • CAT777 Trucks
    • Hitachi 1200/1900 excavators
    • Komatsu dozers
  • Trades Qualification as a Heavy Diesel Mechanic
  • Pay rates from $42.22 to $48.44
  • Relocation assistance for you and your family, including temporary accommodation and support in finding permanent housing
  • Private Medical Insurance fully funded for employees, with reduced rates for family members
  • Life and Disability Insurance
  • Transport to and from work from the Westport area
