Job description

East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Healthcare Scientist. The closing date is 17 October 2025.

The service aims to provide high-quality and effective respiratory diagnostic service, providing technical and interpretative reports. You will work within the departments across the Trust and provide ward-based tests where required. You will be responsible for your own work and support trainees within the department. You will perform a range of respiratory investigations and undertake necessary mandatory training.

Main Duties of the Job

The post holder will work within the standard operating policies and procedures of the department and the NHS organization, adhering to high standards of professionalism, health and safety, risk reduction, confidentiality, patient care, and dignity, and respect for equality and diversity as set out in the NHS Constitution.

Key responsibilities include providing and contributing to the day-to-day running of the service, interpreting lung function tests, and explaining their meaning to non-respiratory colleagues. You will also be responsible for recording all activity, validating results in a timely manner, and performing respiratory investigations in accordance with ARTP/BTS/ERS guidelines, including spirometry, flow volume loops, single breath gas transfer, static lung volumes via body plethysmography, FeNO, reversibility studies, and capillary blood gases.
