Job summary

Te Whatu Ora in Canterbury is seeking a Food Service Assistant to support safe, nutritious meals for patients and Meals on Wheels clients. You will help with daily preparation, plating, and delivery, while keeping the kitchen clean and compliant with food safety standards.

The role offers flexibility within a 7-hour shifts pattern and provides a pathway to stepping into Cook when required, contributing to patient care and community health.

Qualifications

• NZQA Food Handling Certificate (Units 167/168).
• Experience in healthcare food service is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Assist with daily food preparation, portioning, and plating.
• Prepare vegetables, salads, and other menu items as needed.
• Prepare food for Meals on Wheels and patient services.
• Adhere to the site Food Control Plan and food safety protocols.
• Provide cover for the Cook, following recipes and dietary guidelines.
• Maintain a clean and hygienic kitchen environment, including benches, equipment, and service areas.
