Overview

Health Promotion Specialist – Location: Alexandra • FTE: 0.5

At WellSouth, we are dedicated to promoting health equity, ensuring everyone has access to the highest quality of care and enabling better health outcomes for people in the Southern region.

The Health Promotion Specialist (HPS) is a vital role embedded in our equity team, with a strong focus on empowering communities and integrating health promotion throughout all WellSouth teams and activities. It will support general practice to improve the health and wellbeing outcomes across the Southern Region. The HPS will ensure a particular focus on WellSouth equity projects as well as community projects for Māori, Pacific and other priority populations.

The HPS will contribute to improved health outcomes through projects that align with the WellSouth strategy and objectives through evidence-based and cost-effective actions.

Responsibilities
  • Support general practice to improve health and wellbeing outcomes across the Southern Region.
  • Focus on WellSouth equity projects as well as community projects for Māori, Pacific and other priority populations.
  • Contribute to projects that align with the WellSouth strategy and objectives through evidence-based and cost-effective actions.
About you / Qualifications
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in health promotion or public health.
  • Demonstrated leadership and teamwork.
  • Ability to demonstrate cultural safety at all levels.
  • Ability to deal with unexpected situations and crises while maintaining a professional manner.
  • Health Promotion experience or work with government agencies or community groups.
  • Existing relationships and demonstrated commitment to working successfully with Iwi, hapū, whānau, Hauora Māori and Pacific providers and communities.
  • An understanding and commitment to te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Computer literacy – preferably with Microsoft Windows-based software.
  • Experience in health promotion or public health is desirable. A tertiary qualification in a Public Health or Social Science related discipline, health promotion, education, Māori studies or related fields or equivalent experience.
Role expectations

This role requires a proactive, collaborative individual passionate about public health and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. While working independently on projects, you'll be an integral part of the Equity Team working in collaboration on shared health and equity targets reflecting both national and regional priorities and the integration of these across WellSouth.
