Health Care Assistant - Medical Assessment and Planning Unit (MAPU) at Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand Hutt Valley, Lower Hutt

Contract: Permanent, Part-Time 0.9 FTE, Rostered and Rotating

About the Role

As a Health Care Assistant in MAPU, you will work with a dedicated team to provide high-quality care in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities include assisting RNs with patient cares, delivering meals and hot drinks, managing stock, and ensuring beds are prepared for incoming patients.

About the Team/Service/Location

MAPU (Medical Assessment & Planning Unit) is a 16-bed unit focused on assessing, treating, and discharging medical and surgical patients within 24 hours or transferring them to appropriate wards. The unit facilitates efficient patient flow, accepting direct admissions from GPs and ED, with thorough assessments and multidisciplinary reviews to ensure safe and timely discharges.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has completed Health and Wellbeing: Health Assistance Level 3 or equivalent, or is willing to complete it within specified timeframes
  • Is friendly, caring, and empathetic
  • Remains calm in emergency situations

  • Can deliver exemplary patient care
