Job description

Introduction:

At Te Uru Taumatua, Health & Safety is not simply about compliance.

It’s about people, responsibility, relationships and creating an environment where wellbeing, safety and care for one another are natural parts of how we work.

Description:

We are looking for a Health & Safety Advisor who brings deep technical expertise and professional credibility to our organisation. Someone who can strengthen our systems, sharpen our practice and help lift our overall health and safety capability to the next level.

But there's something equally important.

We need someone who can work within a uniquely Tūhoe environment. Someone who is curious enough to learn, adaptable enough to work alongside different forms of expertise, and confident enough to apply their knowledge in ways that genuinely fit our context.

Our Health & Safety team already includes strong cultural and organisational capability. What we're seeking now is a specialist who can complement that strength with advanced technical knowledge and a passion for continuous improvement.

What you'll do
  • Risk assessment and risk management
  • Health and Safety systems and continuous improvement
  • Incident investigation and corrective actions
  • Legislative compliance and regulatory requirements
  • Auditing, monitoring and assurance activities
  • Development and review of policies, procedures and safe work practices
  • Training, coaching and capability development
  • Health, Safety and Wellbeing reporting and analysis

You’ll work closely with leaders, managers, kaimahi and stakeholders to ensure our approach to Health & Safety remains practical, effective and aligned with our values.

Skills and Experiences:

What we’re looking for

We’re less interested in finding someone who has done the same role elsewhere and more interested in finding someone who can bring something new.

You might be the right person if you:
  • Have proven experience in a Health & Safety advisory or specialist role
  • Possess strong technical knowledge of New Zealand Health & Safety legislation and best practice
  • Are highly skilled in risk management, incident investigation and systems improvement
  • Can confidently influence and advise leaders at all levels
  • Are able to translate complex technical requirements into practical solutions
  • Build trust quickly and work collaboratively with diverse groups of people
  • Have the humility and curiosity to learn from others
  • Appreciate that expertise can take many forms and are comfortable working alongside perspectives that may be different from your own
Why join Te Uru Taumatua?

Working for Tūhoe means helping shape outcomes that matter for future generations.

You’ll join a team that values courage, service, integrity and collective wellbeing. You’ll work in an environment where relationships are important, learning never stops, and people are encouraged to bring both their expertise and their humanity to work every day.

If you’re looking for a role where your technical capability will be valued, challenged and expanded, we’d love to hear from you.
