Job description

Lone Star Farms is seeking a motivated Head Shepherd/2IC to join the team at Barewood Station, a 5,500ha (effective) breeding operation located next to the Taieri Gorge, in-land Dunedin. This high-performing farm winters around 25,000 stock units and includes 200 Angus cows, 15,500 Headwater ewes and 4500 Hoggets. Plus a trading operation of 500 R1-R2 cattle.

We are seeking a person who has:

  • 3+ years working as an Experienced Shepherd in New Zealand
  • A team of competent working dogs
  • Experience with feed planning, grazing systems and rotations
  • Ability to communicate with and manage staff is a must
  • Competent with computer use including EID tech
  • A willingness to embrace technology
  • Strong record of high stock performance and animal welfare
  • High-level stockmanship and attention to detail
