Job description

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.

About the Role

Salary: Designated E Grade, Step 1 (APEX & Te Whatu Ora Radiation Therapist Collective Agreement 8 April 2024 – 7 April 2026)

As the Head of Treatment – Radiation Therapist, you’ll play a key leadership role in supporting the Team Leader – Radiation Therapist, taking responsibility for the day-to-day coordination and supervision of the radiation treatment area. You’ll work closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure smooth operations, high-quality patient care, and continuous service improvement.

Recognised as the treatment expert, you'll drive innovation, lead practice development, and contribute to protocols and pathways that shape the future of treatment delivery. While this role includes delegated staff management responsibilities, it carries no direct budgetary oversight.

This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and experienced Radiation Therapist to lead with impact, inspire clinical excellence, and make a real difference in patient care

About the Team/Service Location

Our Radiation Oncology team is a vibrant, supportive, and forward-thinking group dedicated to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. We pride ourselves on our collaborative culture and commitment to innovation, consistently delivering a wide range of advanced treatment techniques.

You’ll be working in a well-equipped department featuring state-of-the-art technology, including three fleet-matched TrueBeam Linear Accelerators with IGRT, VMAT< FFF, gating, and stereotactic capabilities. Our facilities also include a Superficial X-ray unit, HDR brachytherapy suite with a dedicated theatre, our own CT scanner, and a fully integrated, single-vendor treatment planning and patient management system.

Join a team that values excellence, embraces innovation, and puts patients at the heart of everything we do.

About you

As a Head of Treatment you will be a compassionate, patient-focused Radiation Therapist who thrives in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. With excellent communication skills and a commitment to delivering high-quality care, you align with the values and vision of CCHV.

You bring in-depth knowledge of radiation therapy treatment systems, software, and workflows, along with a strong understanding of standards, policies, and data intelligence in clinical practice. But beyond technical expertise, you’re a natural leader – someone who is authentic, honest, and confident in building strong working relationships across the wider team, including SMOs, RTs, Physics, Nursing, and the broader MDT.

You understand that leadership is as much about people as it is about practice, and you’re ready to guide, support, and inspire others to achieve shared goals.

To be considered, you must:

  • Be a New Zealand Citizen or hold (or be eligible for) a valid NZ Work Visa
  • Be registered with the New Zealand Medical Radiation Technologists Board
  • Hold a current Annual Practising Certificate
