Job summary

MBIE in Wellington CBD seeks an experienced policy leader to join as Consumer Policy Manager. Shape the future of consumer markets in New Zealand and lead a team working on data rights, product safety, scam prevention and wide consumer protection reforms.

You will provide strategic leadership across a high-profile program, advising the Minister and coordinating across government to deliver meaningful policy outcomes.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading policy teams and developing people.
• Significant experience delivering complex public policy, regulatory or legislative programmes.
• Ability to lead at the system level, identify and drive change.
• Strong strategic, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and influencing skills, including experience working with senior decision-makers and Ministers.
• The ability to navigate ambiguity and balance competing priorities across a broad work programme.
• Experience building trusted relationships across government and external stakeholder groups.
• A commitment to fostering an inclusive, collaborative and high-performing team environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership across the Consumer Policy team within MBIE.
• Advise the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs on a broad range of consumer law and policy issues.
• Administer key consumer legislation, including the Fair Trading Act, Consumer Guarantees Act, and Customer and Product Data Act.
• Lead a high-profile and varied work programme with direct impact on New Zealand consumers and businesses.
• Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performing team environment.
