AgResearch’s Summer Student Intern position offers hands-on experience in characterising Harakeke fibre, exploring natural fibre properties and lab-based techniques. You’ll work with experienced researchers in a collaborative setting to extract fibres, test strength, and analyse structure as part of a 12-week fixed-term project.

You will be involved in developing methods, recording data and presenting findings, while gaining exposure to modern laboratory equipment and bio-based material

Formación

• You may be studying materials science, engineering, chemistry, biological sciences, environmental science, biotechnology, physics, or another related discipline.
• What matters most is your curiosity, attention to detail and interest in understanding how natural materials behave and perform.
• You will likely: hands-on laboratory and experimental work, learn new techniques and equipment, observe, analyse and solve problems, record experimental information accurately.

Responsabilidades

• Extract fibres from harakeke leaves using laboratory and processing techniques.
• Characterise fibre strength through tensile testing and analysis.
• Investigate fibre structure using optical and scanning electron microscopy.
• Contribute ideas and help develop methods and techniques for fibre characterisation.
• Record, analyse and present experimental data and findings.
