Job summary

Marama Labs, a Wellington-based deep-tech startup, is hiring a hands-on Hardware Production Technician to build CloudSpec instruments from the ground up. You’ll perform mechanical, electrical, optical assembly, calibration, and validation, ensuring quality at every stage of production.

You’ll work closely with engineering and science teams in a fast-paced, high-trust environment, with a clear progression path toward Senior Production Technician as we scale.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience producing high-value hardware or instrumentation.
• Experience with both mechanical and electrical assembly.
• Ability to learn and apply fundamentals underpinning the technology (UV-Vis spectroscopy, optics, basic chemistry).
• Meticulous attention to detail and strong reading comprehension; follow multi-step commissioning procedures.
• Moves at pace and delivers quality results without cutting corners.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; documentation is part of the job.

Responsibilities

• Assemble CloudSpec instruments to specification — mechanical, electrical, and optical sub-systems.
• Perform dry commissioning: run test scripts, capture data, review results against specification.
• Perform wet commissioning: prepare solutions, pipette samples, conduct chemical validation testing.
• Maintain production equipment and workspace to high standards.
• Document all commissioning test results and non-conformances clearly.
• Identify and propose process improvements to drive efficiency and quality.
