At Hawke’s Bay Regional Council (“HBRC”) our purpose is to work with our community to protect and manage the region’s precious taonga of rivers, lakes, soils, air, coast and biodiversity for health, wellbeing and connectivity. Our organisation is diverse and our work is varied. Our structure comprises of six key business units; Corporate Services, Integrated Catchment Management, Asset Management, Māori Partnerships and Engagement, Policy & Regulation, and the Executive Advisory Group which also consists of the Civil Defence and Emergency Management.

About the Opportunity:

Our Corporate Services team plays a vital role behind the scenes that enables HBRC to deliver high quality services to our community. We are looking for a talented and inspiring leader to take on the role of Group Manager Corporate Services, a key position responsible for shaping and leading the strategic direction and people of our Corporate Services division. This division incorporates Finance, Information Technology, Corporate Support, Legal, Risk and Health and Safety, Procurement and Human Resources.

As a senior member of the ELT and reporting to the Chief Executive, the Group Manager Corporate Services will work collaboratively across HBRC, and with key external stakeholders with our communities and including key Crown Funding Agencies. Additionally, this role serves as the overall sponsor of the Corporate Plan, a key component of the Long Term Plan, which encompasses a substantial capital budget.

About you:

You will be a person of mana and integrity who is able to inspire and build a positive team culture to deliver a first-class service to the Council.

Ideally you will have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification
  • Strong leadership skills and experience effectively managing staff
  • Significant experience in the finance and treasury portfolios, including senior finance leadership positions, preferably holding a Chartered Accounting qualification.
  • Experience and understanding of key risk management and compliance (specifically Health and Safety) obligations and best practice.
  • Proven track record of implementing and delivering significant organisation wide change programmes
  • Success in leading, motivating and coaching individuals and a team
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong ability to assimilate large amounts of information and ascertain what matters strategically
  • Demonstrated awareness of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and including Te Reo Māori in relevant and practical ways in interaction and engagement to demonstrate respect and value of Tikanga Māori in appropriate settings
