Job description

We're looking for an experienced intelligence professional and people leader to join our team as Group Intelligence Manager. This critical role sits within WREMO'S Operational Readiness and Response team and reports to the Team Leader, Regional Incident Management Team.

This is a permanent, full-time position based at our Thorndon office in Wellington.

About the role:

As the Group Intelligence Manager within the newly established Regional Incident Management Team (RIMT), you will lead the ongoing development of regional and local intelligence capability and capacity, providing thought leadership, strategic direction, and coordination to ensure the region is ready to respond when it matters most.

In readiness, you'll design and deliver improvements to the intelligence workforce, practices, systems, and processes across the region. In response, you'll lead the Intelligence function in the Emergency Coordination Centre (ECC) or support local Emergency Operations Centres (EOCs) to deliver actionable, timely, and predictive intelligence.

Skills and experience required:
  • A proven people leader able to motivate, develop, and support high performing teams.
  • Significant specialist intelligence experience ideally in a relatable field.
  • Operational leadership experience- you can demonstrate leading others in crisis situations.
  • Strong decision-making skills- able to absorb information quickly, assess risks, and take decisive action.
  • Understands the machinery of local government and understands the role council plays in the emergency management system.
  • Proven leadership experience - able to coach, mentor, and develop a multi-agency intelligence workforce across councils and partner agencies.
  • Ability to build and lead cross-functional teams under pressure, fostering collaboration, psychological safety, and shared purpose
  • Skilled in establishing and maintaining professional standards and consistent practices across multiple organisations.
  • Willingness to be part of an on-call roster and respond to emergencies when required.
  • Understanding of, or willingness to develop, capability in te reo Māori and te ao Māori, in line with Greater Wellington's Māori Capability Framework.

The remuneration for this position, inclusive of all benefits, is $99,271 to $148,907, with a midpoint of $124,089. Starting remuneration will depend on the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
