Job description

Description

Influence. Govern. Deliver.

Are you a commercially astute leader with a passion for governance, strategy, civil construction and road maintenance projects? Ready to step into a pivotal national role shaping the future of commercial delivery across one of New Zealand’s most respected civil construction businesses?

We’re on the lookout for a Commercial Manager to join our central Commercial team, working directly with the Head of Commercial to influence and uplift commercial excellence across our regional operations and major projects.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Provide national commercial governance and leadership, supporting branches across NZ and Fiji.
  • Drive best-practice commercial outcomes on high-value, complex tenders and contracts.
  • Guide and support regional commercial teams on risk, revenue, contract performance, and dispute management.
  • Lead on procurement strategy, cost control, claims, and compliance with business-wide processes.
  • Collaborate with key internal stakeholders including Finance, Legal, HSEQ, and Operations.
  • Be a key player in strengthening Higgins’ commercial capability nationwide.

What You’ll Bring

  • 10+ years’ experience in commercial or project management roles within civil construction.
  • Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Law, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline
  • Deep knowledge of construction contracts (NZS3910 and similar), claims management, and commercial systems.
  • Proven ability to influence, collaborate, and lift capability across multiple teams and regions.
  • A practical mindset and a strong sense of accountability—delivering outcomes, not just advice.

What’s On Offer

  • A senior national leadership role with visibility across the full commercial lifecycle — from early bid strategy to project delivery governance
  • A competitive remuneration package.
  • Access to benefits including a share scheme and educational support.
  • Market-leading parental leave policy.
  • A professional, supportive, and diverse team environment.
  • Flexible working arrangements to support work-life balance.
