Job description
Graduate Environmental Scientist – Christchurch

Springline is a new and growing environmental consultancy based in Christchurch. We work across the South Island, delivering practical and technical solutions in contaminated land, construction management, and environmental site management.

We’re not a big corporate - we’re a small, nimble team. That means you’ll get exposure to a wide variety of projects, hands-on experience, and direct mentoring. We value hard work and a strong work ethic, but we also know balance matters. Flexibility, lifestyle, and personality are as important to us as technical skills.

The Role

This is a full-time graduate position based in Christchurch. The role offers a mix of fieldwork and office-based reporting, with plenty of opportunity to grow your skills in contaminated land assessment and environmental management.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Assisting with and conducting site investigations (soil, water, and waste sampling).
  • Preparing clear, high-quality technical reports in line with New Zealand contaminated land and environmental standards.
  • Supporting project delivery to ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks.
  • Working closely with a small team and engaging directly with clients and contractors.
About You

We’re looking for someone who’s the right fit for our team as much as for the role itself. You’ll bring:

  • A bachelor’s degree in environmental science, geotechnical or civil engineer, or similar earth sciences.
  • Strong written communication and technical rigour - report writing is a big part of what we do.
  • A practical mindset with a can-do attitude.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and an appreciation for lifestyle balance.
  • A willingness to get stuck in, both in the field and in the office.
  • Bonus points if you love dogs (we have one in the office).
  • Based in New Zealand – we will not consider applicants outside of NZ.
Nice-to-haves (but not deal-breakers):
  • Up to 2 – 3 years related industry experience
  • Familiarity with environmental sampling techniques
  • Experience with contaminated land investigations or construction environmental management
  • Skills with GIS, databases, or other reporting tools.
Why Join Springline?

We’re modern, progressive, and lifestyle-orientated. You’ll have the flexibility of an adaptable work environment, while being part of a team that values work ethic, technical excellence, and practical outcomes. We offer:

  • Direct mentoring and support from senior scientists.
  • Exposure to diverse projects, not just a narrow role.
  • Flexibility and a balanced approach to work and life.
  • A chance to grow with a company that’s fresh, energetic, and here to do things differently.
  • If you’re motivated, technically sharp, and want to grow your career in an environment that values both hard work and lifestyle, we’d love to hear from you.
