Job summary

Rocket Lab is seeking a GNC Engineer I for the Electron program. You will engage in trajectory design, mission analysis, and auto-sequence verification across launch and test environments.

The role requires a strong foundation in orbital mechanics, rigid body dynamics, and 1–2 years in software development or aerospace engineering, with a focus on rocketry. This position is based in Auckland, NZ, with opportunities to grow in a fast-paced hardware company.

Qualifications

  • Master’s, bachelor’s or higher degree in Aerospace, Mechatronics or equivalent qualification.
  • Fundamental understanding of orbital mechanics.
  • Good theoretical and/or practical understanding of rigid body dynamics.
  • 1–2 years of software development experience.
  • 1–2 years of aerospace engineering experience (including rocketry).

Responsibilities

  • Assist with trajectory optimization and mission design for Electron launch missions.
  • Assist with auto-sequence design, maneuvers, telemetry, and ground station contacts.
  • Analyze and missionize optimized 3DOF trajectories for 6DOF and flight scenarios.
  • Conduct Monte-Carlo pre-flight, launch day, and post-flight analyses.
  • Design and verify spacecraft separation sequences and dynamics.
  • Support GNC development and maintenance for Electron and other programs.
