Job summary
Toitū Te Whenua is seeking a motivated geospatial intern to support emergency management data workflows in Wellington. You will work with ArcGIS Online and satellite imagery to help agencies access and use data during emergencies.
Ideal candidates are studying Geospatial Science or related fields, with hands-on GIS experience, Python skills, and an interest in user-centered design. The role is based primarily in the office in Wellington and offers a paid internship from November 2026 to February
Qualifications
- Currently studying Geospatial Science, Geography, Environmental Science, or Emergency Management at 3rd year undergrad or postgraduate.
- Hands-on GIS experience with ArcGIS Online and related tools.
- Technical skills including Python, FME or other geospatial data processing tools.
- Excellent written communication for clear translation of technical content to emergency responders.
- Interest in user-centered design and intuitive end-user solutions.
- Team player with clear communication in stressful situations and stakeholder feedback gathering.
Responsibilities
- Upgrade ArcGIS Online tools to manage emergency imagery data requests.
- Improve emergency imagery hub site experience.
- Review ArcGIS Online administration and restricted access management.
- Review publishing workflow for imagery, including archiving.
