About the Role

As a General Medicine Registrar, youwill be expected to work aspart of a general medicine team with Consultants, 1 House Officer and 1 General Medicine Registrar.Duties include caring for ward patients who have been admitted, admitting newpatients, preforming day stay procedures with appropriate supervision andtraining e.g. chest drains, lumbar punctures and ascitic procedures etc.

The hours are 8.00am to 4.00pm daily with long days 4.00pm to10.00pm. Night shifts will be 10.00pm to 8.00am. Weekends (Saturday and Sunday)are 8.00am to 10.00pm.

Nelson Hospital is also accredited for rural hospitaltraining, and we offer a variety of certified rotations for training. There is a strong expectationof teaching in our department. You will be expected to be present for teachingand to provide teaching.

Nelsonoffers the ability to really upskill in all areas of medicine. The only otheradmitting speciality is cardiology and therefore a very wide breath of medicineis cared for on a daily basis. You will have the opportunity to do proceduressuch as chest drains, lumbar punctures, ascitic procedures with appropriatesupervision and training.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Our Nelson General Medical Team provides outstanding clinicalexperience in undifferentiated Acute Adult Medicine with excellent support fromthe Cardiology Team. Our team of General Physicians are dual specialistswith sub-specialty interests including Endocrinology/Diabetes, Gastroenterologyand Hepatology, Oncology and Haematology, Renal medicine and Intensive Care,Respiratory medicine, Rheumatology and Neurology. These specialtypractices are predominantly outpatient service based with support provided tothe General Medical Admitting Team for inpatient sub-specialty advice andcare. All registrars are expected to participate in out-patient clinicswith their allocated supervising specialist. This allocation canaccommodate specific clinical interests of trainees on request.
