Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.

About the Role

We are seeking to recruit a Senior Medical consultant with strong skills and experience in acute medicine, an interest in training and growing junior medical staff and a commitment to growth in secondary health service delivery to meet current and future health care needs within a unique NZ population.

Whakatāne Hospital is a purpose-built secondary care hospital offering acute services to the people of the Eastern Bay of Plenty. Services offered include emergency medicine, paediatric, general and orthopaedic surgery, obstetrics and mental health – alongside acute and ambulatory general medicine.

About the Team/Service/Location

The Medical service consists of a team of physicians who work alongside the multidisciplinary team and junior medical staff to provide patient care for both acute and long-term conditions. Current physicians within the service have wide experience in acute medicine and areas of subspeciality such as rural medicine. Access to other subspecialty areas such as oncology, renal and neurology are available regionally at Tauranga and Waikato Hospitals with clinics being delivered at Whakatāne regularly. Working in the acute medical service at Whakatane is rewarding and busy with a wide range of patient case types and complex presentations. Like many hospitals of this size, there are close collegial relationships across all services and a friendly supportive work environment.
