Job summary

INEX Distribution is seeking an experienced General Manager Distribution to lead its aluminium distribution business in New Zealand. The role can be based in Hamilton or Auckland, offering flexibility for a senior leader who enjoys market proximity and hands-on operation.

You will report to the CEO and act as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, overseeing sales, procurement, inventory, supply chain, and health & safety while driving strong commercial performance.

Qualifications

• Significant senior leadership experience in metals distribution, industrials, manufacturing, or related commercial environments.
• Proven accountability for P&L, budgets, margins and working capital.
• Strong customer, supplier and negotiation capabilities.
• Ability to translate strategic plans into operational results.

The Role

Reporting directly to the CEO and operating as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, this is a broad GM role with responsibility for the overall performance and future direction of the business.

You’ll lead across sales, customers, people, procurement, inventory, supply chain, operations, financial performance and health & safety, with a clear mandate to grow the business while maintaining strong commercial discipline and exceptional customer service.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Driving revenue growth, market share, product mix, pricing, margins and customer profitability
• Leading key customer relationships, market strategy and new business development
• Owning the P&L, budgets, forecasts, working capital and overall commercial performance
• Optimising inventory investment, stock turns, availability and supply chain performanceLeading continuous improvement across systems, processes, productivity and operational controls
• Building a high-performing, accountable leadership team with strong succession and capability
• Providing visible leadership in health, safety and wellbeing

What You’ll Bring

You’ll bring significant senior leadership experience gained in metals distribution, industrial, manufacturing, building products, logistics or similarly commercial environment.

Importantly, you will have successfully held genuine commercial accountability and understand the levers that drive performance in a distribution business.

We’re looking for someone with:

• 10+ years’ senior leadership experience in a relevant commercial environment
• Having experience in the metals industry is advantageous
• Proven P&L, budget, margin and working‑capital accountability
• Strong customer, supplier, negotiation and relationship-management capability
• An understanding of industrial products and how product knowledge can be translated into customer and commercial value
• Proven leadership, coaching and performance-management capability
• Sound judgement, backed by data and commercial insight
• A strong understanding of health and safety leadership in a New Zealand workplace
