Job summary

Green by Nature in the Wanaka/Queenstown region is seeking a reliable Gardener to help maintain outdoor spaces across our projects. You will perform planting, weeding, pruning and general vegetation tasks, with safety and community standards at the forefront.

You will report to the Team Manager, mentor trainees, and collaborate with fellow Gardeners to keep sites well‑presented and compliant. A positive, hands‑on attitude and readiness to work outdoors are essential.

Qualifications

• Certificate in horticulture desired but not essential.
• Full, current driver’s license (manual vehicle preferred).
• Knowledge of health and safety practices.
• Good communication with colleagues and community members.
• Physical fitness to perform outdoor garden tasks for long periods.

Responsibilities

• Planting, weeding, pruning and vegetation control as required.
• Oversee day-to-day operations at designated sites within the contract.
• Mentor and provide guidance to trainees and other Gardeners.
• Maintain open communication with the Team Manager and address concerns promptly.
• Prioritise safety, compliance and quality in all garden activities.

Job description

We’re looking for a reliable Gardener to assist in maintaining beautiful outdoor spaces across the Wanaka. You'll assist with a variety of gardening and maintenance tasks across our projects.

About The Role

Reporting to the Team Manager and working closely alongside your team members, you will be responsible for all aspects of gardening across the Queenstown / Wanaka region.

Your duties will include everything from, planting, weeding, pruning to blowing, spraying, weed eating, and general vegetation control tasks. You will ensure maintenance is top-notch, timely, and planned, while keeping things safe for the community, your team, and yourself. Typical duties will include:

• Create gardens meeting client specifications, including following garden plans, sourcing necessary plants and materials, and planting according to guidelines and plant needs
• Oversee the day-to-day operational aspects of designated sites within the contract
• Mentor and provide guidance to trainees and other Gardeners, offering support and direction for a cohesive and efficient work environment
• Maintain open communication with the Team Manager, promptly addressing and reporting any garden or planting concerns
• Prioritise safety, compliance, and quality management in all aspects of garden-related activities.

Who We’re Looking For:

Certificate in horticulture desired but not essential. Wheels, tracks and rollers also ideal but not essential If you enjoy working outdoors and don’t mind getting your hands dirty, we want to hear from you. Ideally, you’ll have:

• A full, current driver’s licence (with experience driving manual vehicle)
• A solid work ethic and a hands-on, can-do attitude
• Knowledge of health and safety practices (or a willingness to learn)
• Good communication skills, as you may interact with colleagues the wider community members
• The physical fitness to handle the demands of the role including standing and bending for long periods
