Job summary

Freyberg High School in Palmerston North is seeking a dedicated, student-centred permanent, full-time teacher of future pathways to join our team from Term 1, 2027.

You will help students identify career aspirations, build core employability skills and transition to tertiary education, industry training, trades or employment. This role requires managing learners at different stages working at their own pace, with a focus on inclusive practice and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

Freyberg High School is seeking a dedicated, student-centred permanent, full-time teacher of future pathways to join our team starting in Term 1, 2027.

In this role, you will play a key part in supporting students to identify their career aspirations, build core employability skills, and successfully transition into tertiary education, industry training, trades, or employment. This style of teaching requires teachers to effectively manage students working through learning units at their own pace and operating at different stages of progress simultaneously.

Key responsibilities

• Support students to identify their strengths, interests, career goals and aspirations
• Develop students' employability, career management and workplace-readiness skills
• Undertake the Kaiārahi role, mentoring a group of students and supporting their academic, personal and future pathway development

You will bring

• A recognised teaching qualification (state subject areas in application) and current New Zealand teacher registration and practising certificate
• Strong relationship-building skills and a genuine passion for mentoring and supporting young people
• The ability to engage students who may have different learning needs, aspirations and levels of engagement with education
• Strong organisational, communication and interpersonal skills
• A resilient, adaptable and solutions-focused approach
• A commitment to inclusive practice and ensuring all students have access to meaningful future opportunities
• A commitment to ongoing professional learning and development
