Overview

We’re looking for a front-end dev who loves turning ideas into smooth, fast, and beautiful user experiences. You’ll be working side-by-side with our UX team and backend developers to ship features quickly and keep our product looking sharp. We’re Alato, and we work at the intersection of technology and the environment. Our bioacoustic monitoring tools and analysis software help ecologists track wildlife, protect biodiversity, and look after the natural world. We’re a small, driven team building tools that make a real-world impact.

Responsibilities
  • Build responsive, accessible apps with React, Tailwind CSS, and HeroUI
  • Work with designers to bring UI/UX ideas to life
  • Hook up the front end to backend APIs
  • Keep things fast, clean, and user-friendly
  • Experiment, test, and iterate quickly
  • Interest in design and product discussions
Qualifications
  • Solid React and modern JS/TypeScript skills
  • Comfortable with Tailwind CSS and component libraries (HeroUI a bonus)
  • Some experience with state management (Redux, Zustand, etc.)
  • Nice-to-have: experience with wavesurfer.js (or keen to learn it)
  • Eye for detail and a good sense of what makes great UI/UX
  • Happy working in a small team, giving feedback, and wearing multiple hats
  • Ideally Auckland-based
Bonus points
  • Testing (Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress)
  • Debugging and performance tuning skills
