Food Technology Teacher – Secondary School

Working In NZ is seeking a skilled and motivated Food Technology Teacher for a permanent position at a well‑established secondary school in South Auckland.

  • Food Technology within the New Zealand Curriculum (Technology learning area)
  • Designing and developing food‑based technological outcomes
  • Cooking, nutrition, and food literacy
  • Food processing techniques and product development
  • Food safety, hygiene, and industry‑standard practices
  • Menu planning, evaluation, and innovation
  • Sustainable food systems and ethical food practices
  • Delivering practical, kitchen‑based learning
  • Supporting NCEA Technology (including food and processing contexts)
  • Hospitality standards where appropriate
  • Hospitality, catering, or food industry experience (desirable)
About the role

The successful candidate will deliver engaging programmes aligned with the Technology learning area, with a strong emphasis on:

  • Technological practice, including stakeholder engagement, planning, developing, testing and evaluating food‑based technological outcomes
  • Understanding food as a material, including its properties, processing methods, preservation techniques and resulting outcomes
  • Developing student capability in food production, product development and innovation, and applying learning in authentic industry, cultural and community contexts
  • Encouraging sustainable and ethical approaches to food production and consumption
  • Supporting students to connect learning with future education, training and employment pathways
Students will be working towards
  • NCEA Technology and Hospitality standards within food‑related contexts
  • Vocational and tertiary pathways where appropriate

  • Ability to teach across Years 9‑13, supporting students across a range of academic and vocational pathways
  • Strong practical teaching skills in food production environments
  • Understanding of product development, testing and evaluation processes

  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, whānau, colleagues and industry stakeholders
