Overview

As a dedicated member of the Nutrition Food Service (NFS) team, you have the opportunity to make a significant impact by providing nutritious, healthy, high quality meal service to patients, residents, staff, visitors, and the community. This casual position is located at the Strathmore District Health Services. Under the general supervision of a Food Services Supervisor, you will use your customer service, teamwork and organizational skills to support a quality patient, resident and customer experience.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare, handle, portion and package food and beverages.
  • Assemble trays in the kitchen and/or serve meals in a dining room setting.
  • Provide patient meal delivery and pick up.
  • Order and put away unit supplies.
  • Safely operate and clean industrial food service equipment.
  • Adhere to safety, sanitation, and food preparation standards in accordance with AHS policies and guidelines.

  • Perform basic math functions to measure out food portions.
Qualifications
  • Required Qualifications: Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. Physically capable to lift food, supplies and equipment up to 46 lbs and must be able to push/pull meal carts up to 250 lbs. This position requires you to walk and stand on your feet for the duration of your shift.
  • Additional Required Qualifications: Basic knowledge of and experience with computer applications. All new employees must be able to attend 1-2 days of Patient Food Services new employee orientation.
  • Preferred Qualifications: 2 years of customer service experience. 2 years of food service experience. Experience in a hospital or long-term care environment. Experience with inventory management; receiving deliveries, managing expiry dates and minimizing waste while utilizing “First In – First Out” procedures. Experience with Commercial Food Service Equipment. Food Safe Certification or equivalent. WHMIS training.
