Job summary

Wellington City Council is seeking a Payroll Functional Analyst for a fixed-term or secondment opportunity. The role supports the Payroll and HRIS team within People and Capability, focusing on analysis, configuration changes and testing of system upgrades to ensure accurate payroll processing.

Reporting to the Payroll and HRIS lead, you will translate business needs into system configurations, investigate issues, and contribute to continuous improvement across our HR/payroll processes.

Qualifications

• 5–7 years of functional HRIS & Payroll experience in a large/complex environment.
• Hands-on configuring and supporting HRIS/Payroll systems, including pay rules and entitlements.
• Ability to translate business needs into system configuration and improvements.
• Experience investigating issues, testing changes and documenting solutions.
• Knowledge of employment legislation (e.g., Holidays Act 2003).

Responsibilities

• Configure and maintain HRIS and payroll system, including pay rules and entitlements.
• Collaborate with Payroll and HR teams to understand business needs and implement system changes.
• Investigate and resolve system issues with technical teams and vendors.
• Test system changes and upgrades to ensure accurate payroll processing.
• Keep configurations aligned with employment agreements and legislation.
• Identify improvements and document settings and processes.
