Joining Turfrey means being part of a supportive team of over 100 professionals, guided every day by our core values of Dependable, Proud, Family, Growth, and Energy.

Turfrey has a pivotal opportunity for a Financial Controller to lead the finance function and drive strategic growth across all business entities.

The Opportunity...

Sitting on the senior leadership team and reporting to the Managing Director, as Financial Controller, you will own financial reporting, forecasting, budgeting, and provide financial guidance to the Board and management. Your insights will enable sound business decisions and help maximise performance and profitability across commercial projects and operations. You will lead, motivate, and oversee a small finance team, finding efficiencies and opportunities for continuous improvement.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead monthly financial reporting to management and the bank, oversee budgeting and forecasting processes, provide job-level financial analysis, support month-end close, and ensure the integrity of the general ledger through balance sheet reconciliations
  • Optimise the company’s cash position across all facilities to minimise interest expenses, oversee short and medium term cash flow forecasting, maintain banking relationships, and manage asset finance facilities
  • Oversee governance and compliance activities, including GST and FBT returns, and maintain strong relationships with external accountants for income tax and advisory matters
  • Lead, motivate, and mentor the finance team, partner with operational teams to maintain strong commercial acumen, and work closely with the Managing Director to drive operating cadence
  • Collaborate with the Managing Director and leadership team to make data driven strategic decisions, use financial insights to evaluate growth opportunities and risks, and help shape the long-term financial strategy aligned with business goals.

About You...

You might be an experienced Financial Controller looking for your next challenge or a Finance Manager or Senior Accountant looking to step up into your first senior leadership position.

To succeed in this role, you will demonstrate a blend of technical proficiency, commercial insight, and leadership ability. Your background will ideally include:

  • Experience in a financial leadership position with a proven track record of success, preferably within the commercial construction industry, or ability and willingness to step up into a leadership position
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or an equivalent professional qualification, and a Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) or CPA Australia membership.
  • A strong track record of producing accurate, timely and impactful management reports
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing finance teams or individuals, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Strong commercial insight and metrics driven with the ability to analyse complex financial data, provide actionable insights, and support sound business decisions.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • A high level of integrity, ethics, and dependability
