Job Description

Are you ready to bring your accounting expertise to one of New Zealand’s most iconic media organisations? Stuff is on the lookout for a talented Financial Accountant to join our finance team on a fixed-term contract basis.

In this role, you’ll play a vital part in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial reporting, maintaining compliance with accounting standards, and supporting statutory and audit processes. You’ll be hands-on with the general ledger, month-end close, reconciliations, and will partner with teams across the business to support budgeting and forecasting activities.

We’re seeking someone who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, with a sharp eye for detail and a strong sense of professional accountability. You will bring a solid grounding in financial accounting, ideally with experience in IFRS or NZ GAAP environments, and a proactive approach to system and process improvements.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports with absolute accuracy.
  • Managing the general ledger and driving a smooth, timely month-end close.
  • Supporting the development of statutory accounts and liaising with external auditors.
  • Performing and reviewing balance sheet reconciliations and strengthening internal controls.
  • Assisting with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
  • Identifying opportunities to streamline financial processes and optimise systems.
What You’ll Bring
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • CA or CPA qualification (or working towards it).
  • Previous experience in financial accounting or audit, ideally within a mid-to-large organisation.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS/NZ GAAP/AASB standards.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics 365 a plus) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and a collaborative approach to work.
