Finance Manager

This large farming business has grown over the years and has become one of the larger businesses of its size in New Zealand, Unusually for a business of this type, it’s base in Auckland.

With a number of farms, predominantly on the North Island, they have become known for quality people and quality operations.

In their head office, they have a high-quality finance team, you’ll be reporting directly to the HO Finance (ex Big4).

About the Role

As the Finance Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in managing the full suite of financial operations for the farms and associated land-owning companies. From daily reconciliations and monthly reporting to statutory compliance and budgeting, you’ll ensure all accounting functions run like clockwork. The month end processes are fairly short, so expect to spend a lot of time on projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Banking & GL Management: Daily bank reconciliations, cash flow coordination, accurate journal entries, and maintaining ledger integrity.

  • Month-End Close & Reporting: Lead month-end processes and deliver monthly management accounts to Farm Managers.

  • Fixed Assets & Farm Development: Manage asset subledgers, capital project allocations, and reconciliations.

  • Statutory Reporting: Prepare annual financial statements under NZGAAP and half-year consolidated reports.

  • Taxation: Handle GST, FBT, income tax calculations, and liaise with tax advisors.

  • Budgets & Forecasts: Build annual LOC budgets and assist in group forecasting and system updates.
  • Projects: Lead process improvement and other finance-related projects.

You’ll be a great communicator who is able to take ownership of their area.
  • CA/CPA/ACCA qualification with a strong background in financial management.
  • Ideally, a mix of CA firm and Commercial experience
  • Great communication skills
  • Genuine interest in the sector.
  • An ability to work 5 days a week in their CBD offices
