Job summary

The Ministry of Social Development seeks a Finance Business Partner in Wellington to act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, delivering strategic financial insights and supporting decision making. You will lead budgeting and forecasting, monitor performance, identify risks and opportunities, and provide clear reporting to inform both short- and long-term priorities.

A relevant tertiary qualification, with CAANZ membership preferred, is desired.

Qualifications

• Experience providing management accounting and financial partnering services in a large organisation.
• Strong budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and financial analysis skills.
• Ability to interpret financial and non-financial information and turn it into practical advice for decision-makers.
• Experience working with senior leaders and building trusted relationships.
• Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to tailor information to different audiences.
• Sound judgement and the ability to identify risks, solve problems, and provide practical solutions.
• Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Experience using financial systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Understanding of NZ public sector environment and financial management frameworks, incl. Public Finance Act.
• CAANZ membership preferred.

About the role | Mō te tūnga

As a Finance Business Partner, you'll be a trusted advisor to senior leaders, providing strategic financial advice that supports informed decision-making and helps achieve business outcomes. Working closely with your portfolio, you'll build strong relationships, contribute to planning and performance discussions, and provide financial insights that support both short and long-term priorities.

You'll lead budgeting and forecasting activities, monitor financial performance, identify risks and opportunities, and provide clear reporting and analysis. This is a key role where you'll help leaders understand the financial implications of their decisions while ensuring resources are managed effectively and responsibly.

• A relevant tertiary qualification in business, accounting, or a related field. Membership with Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand is preferred.
• An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a commitment to creating an inclusive and respectful workplace.

Salary | Utu-ā-tau: $118,288.00 - $143,647.00
