Northland Regional Council is seeking an Environmental Monitoring Officer for Water and Wastes in Whangārei. The role covers monitoring activities affecting land and waterways, with a fixed-term contract from 1 February 2027 to mid-December 2027.

You'll perform site inspections, collect samples, investigate incidents, and ensure compliance with the RMA while supporting stakeholders to improve environmental performance. Strong data quality and reporting are essential.

Qualifications

• A relevant tertiary qualification in a science-based discipline.
• Knowledge of Regional Council Resource Management Act monitoring functions.
• Experience implementing environmental monitoring programmes.
• Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook.
• Proficient in databases.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently.
• Ability to handle confidential or controversial information with discretion.

Responsabilités

• Carry out site inspections and collect samples.
• Investigate environmental incidents and ensure compliance with the RMA and regional rules.
• Respond to incidents and take enforcement action when required.
• Contribute evidence to formal proceedings.
• Work with consent holders and resource users to improve environmental performance.
• Maintain high data quality and reporting through QA processes.
