Babcock is looking for a Maintenance Engineering Technician to join the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) High Frequency Radio Capability (HFRC) team based in Waiouru.

About the role

Step into a critical role supporting New Zealand’s defence communications infrastructure. As a High Frequency (HF) Radio System Technician, you’ll be part of a dedicated team maintaining and repairing mission-critical radio communication systems. You’ll work on advanced technology, contribute to high-stakes operations, and be trusted to keep critical systems running seamlessly. Your work directly supports the security and efficiency of NZDF communications.

This is a permanent, full-time role that will predominantly see you working a 5-day week from Monday to Friday, with some on-call shifts as and when required.

You are a hands-on problem-solver with solid experience in radio communications or electronics. With a methodical approach and a drive to dig deep into diagnostics, you confidently tackle component-level issues. You enjoy being part of a team that keeps essential systems running under pressure. You’re ready for the responsibility of on-call support and excited by the opportunity to contribute to national defence. Your reliability, curiosity, and ability to adapt make you a valued asset from day one
