About the Role

Serving the South Auckland community means working with one of Aotearoas most culturally rich and highneed populations and your work will have real impact where it matters most.

The Middlemore Hospital Emergency Department is accredited with the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM) for 36 months of training as a mixed Tier 1 ED.

The department is a busy Major Trauma Centre seeing approximately 300 major trauma patients (ISS >13) per year as well as acting as the quaternary centre for spinal cord, mangled limb and burns patients. The hospital is well supported by dedicated Trauma, Burns and Spinal Cord teams and has an active trauma committee that provide governance and oversite. The hospital also provides immediate care for walk in paediatric trauma patients and maintains excellent links with the local cardio thoracic and neurosurgical centres via the Northern Regional Trauma Committee. The ED specialist plays a vital role in acting as team leader for major trauma.

About you

Senior Registrar/trainee in their last year of Emergency Medicine training and near attempting or attempted the Fellowship exam.

Active and valid APC with Medical Council of New Zealand.

A good communicator who is able to lead in challenging situations, directing and supervising junior medical staff and liaising with charge nurses.
