Job description
The Opportunity

Map of Ag delivers farm data insights for agrifood corporates and banks internationally that help identify opportunities and risks to inform strategic decision making and build resilience in their farming supply chains.

In Australasia much of the work focuses on scaled, economic scope 3 net carbon emissions measurement, with a growing interest in nature metrics. However, the global business covers, and requires expertise in, animal health and welfare, production efficiency, responsible use of antimicrobials and farm finances.

To help deliver for our growing client base, we’re looking to recruit a Farm Systems Consultant & Analyst. This is a key, wide raging role, that will sit within the Consultancy team but work with the Commercial and Technology teams, supporting with marketing, consultative sales, product development and project delivery.

The successful candidate will ensure that Map of Ag’s products meet both the needs of NZ customers and the wider global market that currently includes customers in Australia, UK and Europe. Therefore the role, whilst based in New Zealand, with a New Zealand focus, is global in outlook and will require potentially frequent travel to Australia and occasionally the UK.

Location: Remote from New Zealand region near our agrifood customers, close to their supplying farms that we connect, and within an hour of an international airport. Canterbury ideal, your line manager is based there and we have offices available for occasional use.

Salary: 85,000 -105,000 NZD depending on experience

Job Role

You’ll be responsible for the following areas:

  • Developing and maintaining a strong agricultural and agrifood network of like minded professionals.
  • Producing engaging technical and thought leadership media content.
  • Consulting on customer farm data strategy in the pre and post sales phases and requirements gathering. Understanding potential new customer needs, working with the Technology team to scope out the work involved to deliver this, and advise them of possible solutions.
  • Writing sales proposals for prospective customers.
  • Relationship management of key accounts.
  • Consulting for customers to help them understand technical project outcomes, for example presenting GHG emission results, and providing commentary on what they mean and recommendations for further actions.
  • Working alongside the consultancy team to provide technical input into project delivery, such as providing guidance to the technology team on how input data should be analysed or reviewing and verifying key results prior to reporting them to customers and farms.
  • Where required, support customer project delivery which may involve contacting farmers to support their use of Map of Ag's products.
  • Understanding wider market demands and trends, how this aligns with Map of Ag’s product strategy and feeding this into internal product planning discussions.
  • Working with the global technology teams to develop the product so that it continues to meet the needs of customers in each country (NZ, UK, Australia, Europe) into the future

  • Good attention to detail, with a desire to ensure that product quality and service levels are to the highest standard at all times.
  • Experience of working in livestock production and arable systems, to provide the base knowledge for key product or technical discussions internal and externally.
  • Strong level of understanding of GHG modelling methodologies and potential nature measurement metrics.
  • Confident in decision making, being comfortable to listen to customer requirements and make key product recommendations based on these.
  • Our NZ team are developing a globally used product. Experience of farming systems in Map of Ag's other global markets (especially Australia and/or the United Kingdom) is needed.

Education and Professional Requirements

  • A relevant degree in agricultural science, agronomy, land management or environmental, accompanies by at least one post-graduate qualification or relevant professional accreditation or fellowship, or chartered professional membership.
  • Prior experience in farm or agricultural business consultancy in at least two of New Zealand, UK, and/or Australia is essential.
