Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children seeks a Family Violence Response Specialist for a fixed term/secondment, based at Balmoral Police Station, Mount Eden. You will assess family harm, coordinate with Police and partners to implement interventions that protect children and whānau.

You must be a social worker with SWRB registration, strong safety assessment skills, and capability working with Māori and Pacific communities.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of Oranga Tamariki Act 1989 and Vulnerable Children's Act 2014.
  • Experience working with tamariki and whānau from diverse cultural backgrounds, esp. Māori and Pacific peoples.

## Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role* ***Fixed Term / Secondment opportunity available - until April 2027!**** ***Position based at Balmoral Police Station, Mount Eden**** ***We're offering a competitive salary starting from $81,206 to $97,557, depending on experience.*****Mō te tūnga | About the role**Be part of a supportive team who are fully committed to achieving positive outcomes for young people, whānau and the community.Our ***Family Violence Response Specialist*** is responsible for assessing family harm and, in conjunction with interagency partners, and the New Zealand Police you will be instrumental in planning and implementing interventions that contribute to the safety and well-being of families.The position will be based at**Balmoral Police Station** and will require you to coordinate our response and to facilitate, lead, guide and support our work with the New Zealand Police to reduce family harm. You will also be working closely with our partner agencies to ensure the safety and best interests of children and young people are at the centre of what we do.**This is a Fixed Term / Secondment Opportunity and the hours will be 6.30am - 2.30am Monday to Friday.****Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring.**Key requirements of the role include:* An experienced and qualified social worker with great safety assessment skills, clear communication and relationship management.* Clear understanding of Oranga Tamariki's thresholds, as you will be part of the daily Safety Assessment Meetings (SAM) in conjunction with Police and other family violence stakeholders.* Sound knowledge of Oranga Tamariki Act 1989, the Vulnerable Children's Act 2014 and other relevant legislation* Experience working with tamariki and whanau as well as proven successful experience in working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, in particular Maori and Pacific cultures* Knowledge of family violence pathways* Knowledge of the theories of family violence and interventions, and associated concepts/constructs* An understanding of Non-Government sector (NGO) and the public sector context within which OT works* A full, clean and valid New Zealand driver's licence* You must have a Social Work Qualification that is recognised by the New Zealand Social Work Registration Board (SWRB) or have full SWRB registration and current Annual Practising Certificate* Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices in particular; knowledge of tikanga Māori, and Pacific peoples' culture**Mō mātou | About us**Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children has a commitment to putting tamariki and rangatahi at the heart of what we do.Our vision is to ensure New Zealand is the best place in the world to be a child.
