Job summary

Columbus Coffee Dunedin is seeking a capable barista to join our friendly, family-owned team. In a busy café environment, you will prepare and serve espresso-based drinks, maintain clean stations, and provide prompt, personable service to customers.

You should have previous barista experience, the ability to work quickly under pressure, good communication, reliability, and flexibility to rostered daytime shifts including weekends.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve espresso-based coffee and hot beverages to standard recipes.
• Operate commercial coffee equipment safely and efficiently.
• Maintain coffee quality, speed and accuracy during peak service periods.
• Provide friendly, professional customer service.
• Take orders, process payments and operate the POS when required.
• Prepare and present cabinet food and café products.
• Keep the coffee station and front-of-house clean and organized.
• Clean and maintain coffee equipment and work areas.
• Monitor stock levels and notify replenishment needs.
• Assist with opening and closing duties and setup.

Job description

This is a barista position in a busy café environment where you will prepare and serve espresso-based coffee and other hot beverages in accordance with the café's recipes, quality standards and presentation requirements. You will operate commercial coffee equipment safely and efficiently, maintain consistent coffee quality during peak service periods, and provide friendly, professional customer service.

Key responsibilities

• Preparing and serving espresso-based coffee and other hot beverages in accordance with the café's recipes, quality standards and presentation requirements
• Operating commercial coffee equipment safely and efficiently, including espresso machines, grinders and other beverage equipment
• Maintaining consistent coffee quality, speed and accuracy during busy and peak service periods
• Providing friendly, professional and efficient customer service and responding appropriately to customer requests
• Taking customer orders, processing payments and operating the point-of-sale (POS) system when required
• Preparing and presenting cabinet food and other café products in accordance with food safety and presentation standards
• Maintaining a clean, organised and well-presented coffee station, service area and front-of-house environment
• Cleaning and maintaining coffee equipment, utensils and work areas in accordance with workplace procedures
• Monitoring stock levels of coffee, milk, cups, syrups and other beverage supplies and notifying the appropriate person when replenishment is required
• Assisting with opening and closing duties, including preparation of the café, cleaning and securing equipment and service areas
