Job summary

The University of Auckland invites applications for a Lecturer in European Studies, specialising in European literatures and visual cultures, with expertise in Gender Studies. This permanent position commences January 2027, or by negotiation, and involves teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

You will contribute to core European Studies curriculum, including areas such as French and/or Spanish literatures, comparative literature and drama, film and media, with a 40/40/20

Qualifications

• PhD in European literatures, comparative literature, film or media studies, languages or Gender Studies by appointment.
• Competency in at least two Romance European languages and cultures (preferably French and Spanish).
• Experience in tertiary teaching, research and publication.
• Ability to teach Gender Studies and supervise postgraduate students.
• Expertise in European diasporas, colonialisms and postcolonialisms is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Teach European Studies across undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
• Contribute to the Gender Studies programme, including core second-year course.
• Develop a high-quality research profile and contribute to the School's research culture.
• Supervise PhD and other postgraduate students across a broad range of topics.
• Engage in academic service, leadership and citizenship within the School, Faculty and University.
