Job summary

A leading Civil Construction company in Christchurch is seeking an Estimator to prepare competitive cost estimates and support contract managers. Ideal candidates will have 3-5 years of estimating experience in civil construction, excellent analytical skills, and proficiency in tools like Benchmark and Excel. A valid NZ work visa and local experience are mandatory for this role.

Join a leading Civil Construction company in a pivotal role where your estimating expertise will directly influence the success of key infrastructure projects across the Central Otago region.

As an Estimator, you'll be instrumental in preparing competitive cost estimates and tender submissions, supporting our Contract Managers to secure and deliver profitable contracts.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates based on engineering drawings, specifications, and tender documentation.

• Conduct detailed quantity take-offs and measurements for civil infrastructure works.

• Source, evaluate, and benchmark subcontractor and supplier quotations to ensure cost accuracy and competitiveness.

• Assist in the development of tender schedules, construction programs, and methodology statements.

• Contribute to pricing of variations, contract claims, and budget reviews to support continuous improvement and commercial performance.

What You'll Bring:

• 3-5 years' experience in estimating or quantity surveying within the civil construction sector.

• Proficiency in estimating tools such as Benchmark, Microsoft Excel, and familiarity with NZS contracts and local market rates.

• Strong numerical, analytical, and risk assessment skills, with meticulous attention to detail.

• Excellent communication and coordination abilities, able to liaise effectively with internal teams, suppliers, and clients.

Desirable Attributes:

• Experience working on public sector tenders (e.g., NZTA, local councils).

• Understanding of innovative procurement methods, such as Design & Build or Early Contractor Involvement (ECI).
