Join the Northland Waters Establishment Advisory Group

Do you have the drive and expertise to help shape the future of water management in Northland?

We are seeking experienced professionals to join the Northland Waters Establishment Advisory Group/Interim Board (EAG).

About Us

The Far North, Kaipara, and Whangarei District Councils are collaborating to establish a new multi-council Council-Controlled Organisation (CCO) under the Local Water Done Well framework. The EAG will serve as an independent advisory body, supporting the Elected Members Steering Group (EMSG) and operational groups during the Scoping and Preparation phase of implementing this organisation.

Role and Responsibilities

As one of up to six members of the EAG, you will meet on a monthly and as according to programme milestones basis to:

  • Provide independent assurance and advice on foundational documents, financial and legal frameworks, and regulatory compliance.
  • Offer operational guidance to ensure organisational and service design aligns with best practices.
  • Build confidence among elected members regarding the robustness of the new entity's foundations.
  • Provide recommendations to support best practices and readiness for implementation phases.

Skills and Experience

We are looking for individuals with:

  • Significant experience in governance oversight within the local government environment and understanding the connection with central government.
  • Expertise in areas such as water industry, regulatory compliance, environmental stewardship, health and safety, financial acumen, commercial and investment, audit and assurance, HR and workforce, iwi/hapū relationships, community/stakeholder engagement, company establishment, digital and data, and innovation and future-proofing.
